A stalwart Yr 10 Cricket Team hold firm against Henry’s!
Well done to all the boys who played in our match against King Henry VIII school this afternoon. In breezy conditions we produced our best performance in a few seasons to hold firm and draw a very close game against a competitive Henry’s side.
Southam batted first and put on 29 for the first wicket before a tricky delivery reared up on Aaron Sutcliffe who defended it to their Wicketkeeper. Freddie Hart threatened early on, but was unlucky to be given out to the very thinnest of edges. Ben Leahy batted well for his 16, and Dom Goddard played some solid strokes for his 4, but it was Oliver Clarke who steered us to our total with an unbeaten 27.
Henry’s openers started their reply confidently accelerating to 36 off 6 overs. However, needing 89 to win their wickets started to fall at regular intervals. 3 wickets a piece for both Ben Irving and Louis Pilgrim gave us a chance, but it still looked as though Henry’s would have enough to get their target. However, Man of the Match Oliver Clarke, having played so well with the bat, bowled vital tight overs at the end and it was fitting that he picked up the last wicket when the scores were level.
Congratulations to all the played and it was a fitting way to finish your season and Cricket at Southam.
