Boys II Men, but it is just the start of the road!
The Year 10 Rugby team came of age on a wet, cold morning on Saturday at Southam. Against a strong Lawrence Sheriff team, that had comprehensively beaten us last year, it would have been easy to have put in a half-hearted display, but this year we have developed a mature resilience and tenacity, giving us the belief that we can complete on a level with any team.
A spirited front row, fierce tackling from our forwards and centres, some excellent kicking under intense pressure and great support, kept Lawrence Sheriff out until right at the end of the first half. Still a score of 0-7 was a massive improvement on their last encounter.
With a couple of changes at the break, we started with the same endeavour, taking the match to Lawrence Sheriff, but some of the relentless contact was starting to take it’s toll. They crossed a few more times with some well executed moves, but with the clock ticking down, we were able to exert some pressure of our own and when Alfie Potter crossed at the end we got our just rewards for a wonderfully spirited display.
It was a mightily impressive effort from all the team, and picking a Man of the Match impossible, from the tireless tackling of Freddie hart and Ben Irving, to the line busting runs from Charlie Thwaites, Joe Bramley and Mackenzie Spillman-Penn and some fantastic last-ditch tackling from Greg Virr.
Well done to you all and I am looking forward to our next match against Princethorpe College on Sat 16th Dec.
