Southam V Myton
The Year 10 Football team had a tough start to the season with a home match against a perennially strong Myton team.
We started well, competing for each ball and winning many 50/50’s. An excellent finish from Rob Armstrong put us 1-0 up and then a superb effort from Dan Turner, to create some space and finish from the edge of the area put us 2-0 up at the break.
However, with a stiff wind in their backs, we knew that Myton would come out strongly in the second half. the task of preserving our lead was made all the more difficult when some absent defending left their main striker clear through on goal after 30 seconds! 2 more goals rapidly followed and we were left with a ‘mountain to climb’ chasing the game. Although under constant pressure from Myton, we did start to offer some more resistance, and some solid defending from Jacob May, kept the scores close. Eventually our goal was breach once again to leave the score 2-4 at the end. Credit is due to the majority of the team who kept battling to the end, but a team is only as strong as it’s ‘weakest link’ and we can’t afford to let some players ‘go AWOL’ against quality opposition.
